of International Business, Delhi School of Economics concluded
its 10th Annual
Convention ‘Erudition’05 on the theme “Leveraging
the future for corporate renaissance”. The two-day event
(26th-27th October 2005) was organized at Hotel Le Meridian,
New Delhi amid great presence of known faces from academia and
the industry alike.
Erudition’05 started with the lamp
lighting by the esteemed Guest of Honor Prof Shirin Rathore,
the Keynote Speaker Mr. K.S. Ramesh, CEO & Executive Director,
CavinKare and Prof Jawahar Lal,Head, Department of Commerce.
The inaugural session was followed by
three thought provoking technical sessions on International
Business, Marketing and Finance.
The first session ” India Beyond
Borders- Emerging frontiers and Challenges” successfully
dealt with a wide ranging topics: be it recognition of India’s
presence as a knowledge power ,its tri – polar relationship
with US, EU& Asia or the structural trends in global economy
and its high profile bid for Internationalization.The session
witnessed the presence of five esteemed speakers- Mr. R. K.
Dhawan, Chairman, Northern Region, FIEO Mr. SanjivKapoor,
CTO and EVP, Atlas Interactive Ltd, Mr. Indranil Sinha, Director
Exports Whirlpool, Mr.Ravi Kishore, Senior VP, Hero Export,
including the session chairperson Mr. Rajan Saxena,Director
ICFAI Business School, Gurgaon.
The next session titled “The Future
of Marketing - Thinking Beyond the 4 P’s“ was
kicked off by a well received presentation by the chairperson
Prof S.K. Jain,Department of Commerce,DSE. The speakers on
the panel included marketing heavyweights namely Ms Asha Gupta,
MD, Tupperware, Mr. A Talapatra, Country Head, Defence &
Security, Hewitt Packard, and Mr. Ajith Rao, VP & Research
Services Director CSMM, IMRB International. The session covered
varied scenarios in the dynamic marketing landscape ranging
from ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, to value based positioning
to the importance of 5th P identified quite rightly as people.
The last session on “Mercury rising
in the financial climate - A gamut of opportunities”,
was
chaired by Dr. L.C.Gupta, Director and Member Secretary, Society
for Capital Market Research and Development. He set the ball
rolling by a discussion on the evolution of Indian financial
system over the years, especially after liberalization. The
gathering on podium included Mr.Sanjeev Mittal, Regional Head
ING Vysya Bank, Mr. Sunil Wadhwa CFO, NDPL, Mr. Ravi Shankar,
CEO, PNB Principal Advisory Services, and Mr. Ramesh Chander,
Regional Director RBI. Amongst themselves, the speakers presented
a SWOT analysis of the Indian financial situation bringing
to the fore front India’s continued efforts in carving
out a niche for itself in the global financial arena.
The sessions ,thus,were highly enriching
and interactive and did not disappoint the large gathering
of business enthusiasts.
